Toni Braxton Cast Mo'Nique For New Album

Toni Braxton has enlisted some of entertainment’s biggest stars for her new album including Trey Songz, Robin Thicke, and Usher, and now she’s rounding out the prestigious list with an Oscar nominee.

Comedian-turned-actress Mo’Nique, who is up for an Academy Award for her role in Precious, makes a cameo on Braxton’s sixth studio album. “She does a monologue on one of my songs,” the R&B diva exclusively tells Rap-Up.com. The track was inspired by Oran “Juice” Jones’ 1986 hit “The Rain.”

“It’s about this relationship where this guy finds out his girl is cheating on him. We do a song, it doesn’t sound anything like that, but it’s the reverse of a guy who gets busted cheating. [Mo'Nique] does this whole monologue and it’s really funny and comedic.”

The Grammy winner reached out to the Golden Globe winner, who happily obliged. “She said, ‘Oh my God, I’d love to do it.’ I’ve always been a fan of hers and we’re both from Maryland. I love her.”

The winning combination can be heard on Pulse, due May 4. Until then, the “Un-Break My Heart” singer is rooting for her friend at next month’s Oscar ceremony. “We’re great friends, she’s really cool. I’m really excited for her about her Oscar.”

Toni Braxton "Pulse" Preview

Toni Braxton, "Pulse" (Atlantic)

Release Date: May 4, 2010

Source: Billboard

After suffering from a heart disease-related illness in 2008, R&B singerToni Braxton says she "didn't think I'd ever be able to do music again." But a conversation during cardiac rehabilitation with an upbeat elderly female patient who had survived four heart attacks helped motivate the singer to continue performing.

"That's when I found my pulse again," Braxton says, noting that her forthcoming album, "Pulse," is "sexy," "fun" and "testimonial." The first single from the set-her debut on Atlantic Records-is the sensuous "Yesterday," featuring Trey Songz. Braxton also tapped blue-eyed-soul crooner Robin Thicke for the romantic track "Don't Leave." "We've got this argument and we both realize we were wrong," she says about the song, "and we're begging each other to try and work it out."

Other favorites are the R&B-meets-country "If I Have to Wait" and the title track. Producers include Harvey Mason, Ne-Yo and Rodney Jerkins, says Braxton, who adds that she'll tour behind "Pulse" in the United States by late spring.

Toni Braxton's Album Preview Party

Singer Toni Braxton previewed her new album and debut from Atlantic Records last night (10/19) to an exclusive crowd in New York City. The album includes smoldering ballads and a few uptempos to keep her fans and competition on their toes. Among the favorites were, “No Way, No How,” “Make My Heart,” “Looking At You,” and the pop leaning ballad “Wait For You.”

The crowd, which included long time friend/fashion designer Marc Bouwer, was exceptionally pleased with the R&B-laden track, “Hands Tied,” and which Mrs. Braxton says, “I can love you with my hands tied, I can please you with my hands tied,” while on the track, “Not Enough (Woman),” she explains to her love, “All I needed was for you to tell me I’m beautiful but your not even talking at all.” Braxton’s current single, “Yesterday,” and remix featuring Trey Songz has been receiving a positive response with her album scheduled for release in February 2010.

Trey Songz Collaborates With Toni Braxton

Trey Songz is living the dream. And part of that dream includes recording with R&B veterans like Toni Braxton.

The “I Need a Girl” singer has completed an official remix to “Yesterday,” the first single from Braxton’s new album Pulse, due out February 8, 2010 on Atlantic Records. The remix was produced by Troy Taylor, who has worked with Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston.

As it turns out, the “Un-Break My Heart” songstress was a fan of her 24-year-old labelmate before they collaborated. “[My publicist] told me that in a couple interviews she’s mentioned that I was her favorite male singer right now,” Songz told Rap-Up.com. “And that just took it to a whole ’nother level to be on a record with her.”

"Yesterday" is currently number 72 on Billboard's Top R&B 100 chart and available for download @ www.tonibraxton.com
